Frequently asked questions
What is in the open-source core?
Everything a single team needs: collections, fields, relations, drafts, permissions, generated admin, REST API, the MCP server, pages with live preview, import and export, an audit log, plugins and adapters. It is Apache-2.0 and has no telemetry.
What do Team and Enterprise add?
Team adds editorial workflow: approvals, scheduled publishing, version history, comments and webhooks. Enterprise adds identity and governance: SSO, SCIM, audit export, IP allowlists, BYOK, environments and per-agent controls for MCP.
How are Team and Enterprise delivered?
As a commercial license for private engines that plug into the open core through a documented extension seam, so core code never branches on your edition. Self-hosted today; a managed cloud is under consideration.
Is it ready for production?
Formscaler is in early access. The foundations (auth, dynamic roles, schema builder, adapter interface, edition seam) are shipped and the rest is on the public roadmap. We label every capability with its status.
Can AI agents damage my content?
Agents act as a real user through the same services and permissions as the admin UI. They only see collections and fields that user may read, updates need the current lock version, and in v1 agents create drafts but cannot publish. Denied calls are audited.
Can I leave?
Yes. Schemas and records export as JSON, the core is Apache-2.0, and your data lives in your own database.
